About

Kimberly Lin is an artist and rock climbing enthusiast based in New York City. Her work celebrates the beauty of ordinary human bodies that navigates between the stillness in facial expressions and the gestures of moving figures.

Using charcoal as her primary medium, Kimberly perceives human bodies as sculptures on paper. She builds her portraits and figures by smudging charcoal and carving details with her hands. This friction between her skin and paper draws parallel to rock climbing where your skin is constantly in contact with the rough surface of a rock. Both passions fuel Kimberly's curiosity to explore the strength and fragility of human bodies in dynamic forms and movements.

Born in Torrance, California and raised in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Kimberly received her BFA in Studio Art and MPS in Interactive Telecommunications Program from New York University. Since 2021, she has been a frequent student at Minerva's Drawing Studio at which she discovered figurative drawing as a way of keeping her artistic spirit alive outside of academia. Kimberly is also part of the five-people art-collective Joylabo who she worked site specific installations with.
